Here are some films I've directed

Neljä kuvaa näkymisestä / Four Pieces on Being seen (2022)

Four Pieces on Being Seen is a short community dance film where the participants articulate their experiences on their queer identity and how they would like to be seen. It was made with participants found through an open call in Tampere, Finland, and got support from the Pirkanmaa regional dance centre. What a lovely project to work on! We did creative writing, explored movement and everyone got to make their own little solo piece, representing themselves the way they wanted. FPoBS (I can abbreviate stuff) has so far been selected to the Queer Dance Film Screening in Tampere, Leeds Queer Film Festival and the Wicklow Screendance Laboratory.

Come Alive (2019)

Come Alive is a little dance film / documentary hybrid starring the local legend Joseph Travers. Joe grew up with Noonan’s syndrome and I wanted to talk to him about the challenges he has faced and what still keeps him dancing.

This was made on a budget of zero pounds. I lie; I did get the bus to Portobello. And bought Joe a cappuccino.

Sleeping Patterns (2011)

Sleeping Patterns was a part of my BA thesis from Tampere University of Applied Sciences. It's a narrative piece of screendance about a couple whose life is complicated by the fact that one of them is constantly asleep.

Sleeping Patterns was screened at a bunch of festivals and won the audience award at the Loikka Dance Film Festival in 2012. The prize was a potted plant and an opened bottle of red wine. I drank the wine. I don’t know what happened to the plant.

Shot on 16mm, partly because my then cinematography teacher had a bunch of b&w 16mm film kicking about in his freezer and I guess he wanted to free up space for breakfast rolls
